Plans have been made to demolish the stadium and build a multi-purpose, 35.6ha “Sports Hub” in its place. Construction has begun and is expected to be complete in 2010.The stadium is currently famous for hosting IRB Sevens Series Rugby and Singapore’s National Day Parades. It also hosted some of the 2003 South East Asia Games.
