McMahon Stadium is a Canadian football stadium located in Calgary, Alberta. It was constructed on the University of Calgary campus over a 100-day period in 1960 and is named after Calgary residents Frank McMahon and George McMahon who donated C$300,000 toward the construction of the facility.
Capacity 38,000 Opened 1960 Owner City of Calgary The stadium currently serves as the home venue for the University of Calgary Dinos, Calgary Colts of the Prairie Junior Football Conference, and the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL, who formerly played at Mewata Stadium from 1935 to 1959. It is also home to the Alberta Football League’s Calgary Gators.
With permanent seating totalling 38,000, McMahon Stadium is the fifth-largest stadium in Canada. The CFL Grey Cup game has been held at McMahon Stadium in 1975, 1993, and 2000. McMahon Stadium was also used for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympics, which required major expansion of its seating area.
